| In 2007, Senator Barack Obama stood up for a gun owner. He endorsed Chicago Alderman Dorothy Tillman in her Democratic primary. Not only was she a gun owner, but she had even pulled a gun on her colleagues during a contentious 1991 ward redistricting hearing, according to eyewitnesses. It would be only a slight exaggeration to say that this was the strongest effort Obama has ever made to support gun rights. |
| State Treasurer Jack Markell says if he is elected governor, he will do more to keep guns away from criminals, by restricting the rights of law-abiding citizens to purchase guns. |
| Another of Mr. Mortensen`s bill drafts for the 2009 session would clarify that Nevada homeowners have a right to defend themselves with deadly force in the face of an intruder. Mr. Mortensen`s legislation would add an extra level of protection for those forced into such unfortunate situations. And that`s good. |
| A ballot initiative that would end the state`s predator control program as now conducted was failing at the polls Tuesday. With 70 percent of the votes counted, the measure was lagging with more than 55 percent of voters saying no. |
| A state lawmaker wants Nevada to adopt a legal doctrine strengthening a homeowner`s right to use deadly force to protect someone`s life from an intruder. |
| The latest polls ought to alarm Barack Obama. The Illinois senator desperately needs to change the narrative of the last few months - and this week`s Democratic convention is a good opportunity. Since he captured the nomination in June, he has made a string of costly errors which have resulted in squandering his previous lead over John McCain. |
| Walk into almost any hotel here this week and you can find an odd sight: Liberal Democrats starting their day by lobbying moderate and conservative Democrats. The lobbyists are members of the Progressive Democrats of America, an activist group working to keep the party true to liberal priorities, and they have been assigned to every hotel housing Democratic convention delegates. |
| And after two hours of talking, and a pre-convention buildup here in Denver in which Democrats have received lots of positive coverage in this critical swing state, you’d have to say that the news is pretty good for McCain. The undecideds have plenty of problems with him, and they can’t stand George W. Bush, but they seem more deeply concerned about Obama than McCain, because they have still not answered the threshold question about the Democratic nominee: Is he ready? |
| As summer began, Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels said he was taking steps to prohibit guns on all city-owned property after three people were injured in a shooting at Northwest Folklife. But as Bumbershoot approaches this weekend, no prohibition has taken effect. |
| Toronto has adopted harsh anti-gun policies, even closing a gun range city property, but they gladly allow guns when it means money for the city from the Filming of the TV show Flashpoint in Nathan Phillips Square, even if doing so contradicts the city`s anti-firearms stance. |
| One of the more surprising twists in the debut of Joe Biden as Barack Obama’s running mate has been the Democrats’ decision to highlight Biden’s work on the 1994 crime bill. The bill with the Clinton gun ban and other anti-gun provisions. |
| Since January, Dave Whetzel of Hunter`s Paradise watched an increasing number of Shenandoah Valley residents enter the shop to get information about concealed-weapon permits, which are up statewide for the second year in a row. |
| GeorgiaCarry.Org’s mission is to foster the civil right of its members to bear arms. While the phrase “bear arms” is familiar to most people from text of the Second Amendment, GCO’s mission is focused on the notion that people have an inherent right to self-defense that is firmly rooted in our history. |
| When a politician has to keep telling people he is “not” something, its time to check the record. In the case of Barack Obama, when he says he is “not” opposed to Second Amendment rights, checking the record proves he IS, and every time he says he isn’t, he’s lying. Click here for the truth. |

| Sportsmen have a solid history of voting, with 9 in 10 currently registered to vote and of those 83 percent say they will vote in the November election, according to a new survey by the Congressional Sportsmen`s Foundation. Overall, there are an estimated 40 million sportsmen of voting age in the United States. |
| Why is it a real race now, with John McCain rising in the polls and Barack Obama falling? There are many answers, but here I think is an essential one: The American people have begun paying attention. |
| Authorities working to narrow their leads in the June 8 shooting deaths of two girls used old-fashioned legwork to come up with a list of area gun owners with .40-caliber pistols, one of two weapons used in the slayings. |
| Sen. John McCain is having a very good summer, as a trio of new polls show the Republican presidential candidate pulling even with or slightly ahead of rival Sen. Barack Obama and erasing what had been the Democrat`s clear edge on appealing to swing voters and dealing with the economy. |
| Legislators looking to expand where Georgians can carry guns may take aim at university campuses. Carry a gun on or within 1,000 feet of any campus now and you could be charged with a felony, spend up to 10 years in prison and pay as much as $10,000 in fines. But a panel of lawmakers conducting a wholesale review of Georgia`s gun laws soon will solicit opinions on removing or altering the ban. |
| John McCain has expanded his lead over Barack Obama in Missouri, a new survey says. McCain`s advantage is 50-40, a seven-point increase from Public Policy Polling`s July poll, which showed him leading by three points. |
| Woodford County voters will weigh in this November on a topic that some gun-rights advocates think has been ignored too long in Springfield. The County Board on Monday agreed to put a non-binding referendum on the general election ballot asking whether residents want state legislators to enact laws allowing trained citizens to carry concealed firearms. |
| Some college students are pushing to allow firearms on campus. They say it would stop a tragedy, like the Virginia Tech Massacre from happening again. Some UCCS students believe handgun permit holders should be allowed to carry their weapons on campus. |
| The fun thing about an Obama-Biden ticket is that the McCain campaign can point to a new awkward comment by Joe Biden — either on the importance of experience, in praise of McCain, or in support of invading Iraq — that contradicts the stands and qualities of the Democratic nominee for every day from now until Election Day. |
| Clarence Thomas’s 1991 Senate confirmation hearing was one of the most shameful political events of recent American political life. In the wake of Barack Obama’s risible attack on Justice Thomas at Saturday night’s Rick Warren forum, and the continuing buzz about Delaware Democratic Senator Joe Biden’s potential selection as Obama’s running mate, it’s worth rewinding to 1991. |

| John Rosenthal is buying a new anti-gun billboard in Massachusetts. His actions just provide more proof that his organization, American Shooters and Hunters Association, is just a front group for politicians like Barack Obama to try to hide their anti-gun agendas. |
| In West Texas, it was not uncommon to see the bumper sticker “fear the government that fears your gun” on a lot of pick-up trucks during both terms of the Clinton administration. Yet as bad as Clinton was, his push to disarm the American people would pale in comparison to what we’d see from a President Barack Obama, a man who not only wants to disarm the American people, but America’s allies as well. |
